Boutique in the Bāgh

Another project that epitomizes metamorphosis. A client that dreamt big and was ready to do everything to achieve that dream, this project is the story of how a derelict, ignored space in the setback of a house, suddenly became an asset and a workplace and a garden for the family.

The initial process and plan was to harness the side and back setbacks to make a beautiful garden for a family which likes to entertain a lot of guests on special occasions and celebrates important family events at home. As luck would have it, execution of the project was put off until the post monsoon season.

While we waited for the monsoons to abate, the plants to rejuvenate and the soils to dry, the client came up with a completely different requirement in the middle of the season! Yes she wanted to realize her lifelong dream and now wondered if we could come up with a way of accommodating a hand-loom boutique space in the side set back of the house. There it was, a ‘Boutique in the Bāgh’. A handloom boutique space was designed to be a part of the garden. The design brief changed from a continuous garden space entered from the road to a separate garden entered through the house, but also with a connection to the boutique/store.
